Meet Helle Vestgaard Knudsen - EP 299
Sep 07, 2026In this episode, join me for a conversation with the Danish Equine Behaviour advicer, Helle Vestgaard Knudsen. We recorded this in June, right in the heart of the Norwegian mountains among a herd of Dole horses in Sikkilsdalen, during the traditional summer turnout of stallions and mares. In the background, you’ll hear the mountain wind, the thunder of hooves, and the occasional squeal as the horses figure each other out. Together, we explore what it means to take initiative, how to enrich an impoverished environment, and the distinct life cycles of stallions versus mares. We also discuss the horse’s remarkable ability to adapt to survive - and how that very adaptability allows humans to do so much with them, including things we perhaps shouldn’t. Enjoy the episode!
